The recent UK election produced at least one of Labour's worst historical defeats. This comes as a shock to many as the party under Corbyn's leadership was possibly the best modern example of grassroots radicals influencing the politics of a mainstream political party. Corbyn became Labour leader as a result of the momentum organization within the labor party. Momentum mobilized a grassroots campaign of party rank and file to place Corbyn into power in a party that in the last century became dominated by neoliberal elements a la Tony Blair. As a result, this election, Labour ran on a truly social democratic program of social and welfare spending. Despite this initial success of transforming the Labour Party in a direction of real social democratic politics and away from neoliberalism, the project failed it's major test run. Clutching Pearls While Gaza Burns

 An opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal has joined a chorus of other such pieces in western media outlets decrying support for Palestine during the current Israel-Hamas conflict. The latest conflict was kicked off by an invasion of Israel by Hamas fighters that killed over a thousand Israelis and the taking of hostages by said fighters including infants and the elderly. Thus any support of Palestine that has proceeded that undoubtably horrible episode has been labelled by western commentators and supporters of Israel as "support for terrorism". This piece sets itself apart by aiming at the concept of "settler colonialism", i.e. a colonial project that violently forces indigenous people off their land to pave the way for settlements to house a settler population.  It argues that the application of the concept to Israel and the United States as a way of criticizing said states is really just a sort of Fascist adjacent blood and soil nationalism. Anarcho-syndicalism In Indonesia

Anarcho-syndicalism does not have a long history in Indonesia. It's left is dominated by reformist-electoral Marxists. Despite this an Indonesian Anarcho-syndicalist movement has cropped up to engage in serious activity. The organization which represents this movement is Persaudaraan Pekerja Anarko Sindikalis (Anarcho-syndicalist Comradeship of Workers). Recently it helped organize the K.U.M.A.N union movement which participated in and organized a strike of Uber workers in the country. As expected the Indonesian government has taken a repressive approach to the Anarcho-syndicalists. The latest form of repression was for the Indonesian government to declare the Anarcho-syndicalists a threat to the state and blame them for the actions of teenage insurrectionist Anarchists who caused property damage.
